1. Nothing like being in what should be a run of the mill ARD and then the diagnostician or parent starts talking and the whole thing goes to hell...

1a. Diagnostician: "The student performs reads on a third grade level, has a disability in math ...performs math on a 1st grade level"....Ma'am!

1b. "This child is under a BIP is a danger to others" And ya'll didn't notify me of this immediately?!

1c. Parent mentions something ridiculous about home life that is a detriment to the continuity the kid needs between home and school to be successful.

1d. "Student needs to be allotted time to pleasure themselves (privately) or reminded not to pleasure themselves during class"

1e. These things happen every year so none of it is a true shocker. Sometimes the meetings do go left and you just have to sit with a straight yet supportive face. People rarely mention these type of things we have to deal with in regards to teaching.

2. Cardi B and Nick Minaj have ruined my 2nd/3rd period.
Student: "Who's side are you on Mrs. Washington? I'm Team Nicki"
Me: "You shouldn't be on either side. You not (Knot hahahaha) about that life like Cardi to run up on anybody and you cannot afford security like Nicki nor have a goon to fight your battles."
Student: "Baby, you must not have heard about me! I throw them--"
Me: "When was the last time you got into a fight?"
Student: "......."

3. Again....I want Black girls to love themselves!!! The offense and defense they feel they need to play anytime someone says something to them is crazy. That attitude is ingrained so they have been lacking and attacked for a long time. So next time you see a girl with a chip on her shoulder say something uplifting (even if it pains you and you feel this is not a long-term effective method. this is me.) The world is an unforgiving and humbling place you don't have to make your interactions that way though.
