Morning Teacher Observation Rant Pt. 2 Look lady...nobody cares that you read the board policy. Good for you because I didn't read it! That thing was 300 pages, I couldn't find the time since I now have to be your child's dietitan and personal trainer. As a teacher there are many hats I wear and things I know, the legality of recess is not one of them. Should I? I'm not sure? Just like you know y ou shouldn't be emailing me about personal matters from work but here we are. I'm sure that's in your employers handbook as well. To insinuate that recess is a necessary educational component is...a bit of hyperbole. I mean I'm hearing about them taking it away all the time to increase academic success so....besides your child spends most of their recess whining to any adult about how somebody hit them and they did absolutely nothing at all...not even retaliate, let alone initiate. Then you made up a policy that they can only sit out five minutes? Huh? Where? ...

Teacher Observations ATTN: I GOT MY TAMALES!!!!! Gracias, Abuela Dominguez. Homegirl will never fail my class...(she's smart but these tamales really motivated me to help her learn!) 1. I thought I had energy on Fridays but this Friday before the break...baby I had all the energy in the world! 2. Parents don't email about grades on the last day of the semester. Teachers have checked out and don 't care. All you're doing is showing us why your child is so last minute. 3. Parent Teachers.....ya'll crazy and just think you can will your way for something to be done for your child. No, it doesn't work like that. Millenials aren't entitled...adults create entitled children who then turn in entitled adults. 5. Parents give your teachers presents at the end of semester and teacher appreciation week. It makes us feel and appreciated and like your child more.... 6. Disregard that last clause 7. Parents watch your tone in your emails...don't tell me how to do my j...

Morning Teacher Rant I can't tell which level of parent is the worse the secondary or the elementary. I'll have a rant for both by the end of the day but this morning is dedicated to elementary parents.... Elementary kids lie. Ate their vegetables...a lie. Washed their ears. Clean their rooms. Did not purposely push and punch that kid and has no idea what happened...ALL LIES. Why you choose to l isten to these Nixon-impersonators I'm not sure. But anywho...your child states the whole class has to sit out for recess due to behavior. You deem this as unacceptable because your child is obese and needs the exercise and the position is uncomfortable to sit in. You then demand a teacher ( that you previously bribed...with money..for a conduct grade) to contact you about any infraction that your child has so that as a parent-teacher team you can decide an appropriate consequence which should not exceed 5 minutes sitting out at recess. 1. If it's class discipline then everybody...

Teacher Observations 1. The server went down...so no email to notify that it is out, can't enter grades or scan scantrons...during finals week...man what a time...to be alive 2. Friends with kids...do not be the crazy mom threatening teachers because the teacher did not do what YOU wanted them to do. Instead take all that energy and run your child instead of trying to run another adult....especi ally if you are wrong. 3. Teacher parents are the worse. 4. Update: nerdy drug dealer is NOT the dealer. It is someone else. Middle school nerds are still the snitches though. They thought that would help them get out of trouble. 5. My kids are attempting to be more clever with asking about my sexuality.." Mrs. Washington, do you support Chick-Fil-A" *before I could answer..." Mr. V, said he doesn't eat there because he has friends that are LGBT and he doesn't want to discriminate against them" *I give no answer 5B. I call my wife during class because...everybody...

Teacher Observations 1. Finals in middle school are a blessing. 2. The nerds are selling drugs...and getting caught. You think they would be smart enough to do this off campus but they are just so happy to be "cool" at school that they can't shut up to save themselves. 3. In a school with so many teachers why only one scanner? Well two but really one because we keep the other one locked up in  the library so no one can use it. 4. How do you fail a final that is just like the review....and is open note???? 5. If I'm supposed to get an attendance bonus and a lot of people have been out...shouldn't my bonus increase? If you allotted this many dollars for bonuses and you don't give all of them out and it doesn't get added to the eligible people's check then where does the money go? Edit

Teacher Observations 1. Mainstreaming Special Education children just because a parent wants some sense of normalcy for their child is a disservice to everybody else when your child is a liability. Other parents don't want their child licked, scratched, bit and attacked because you want your child to be like the "regular" kids.  2. Who decided it was a good idea to send a call out about an activ e shooter drill? Kids know its fake yet also sets us up because everyone knows exactly where we will be at a given time. 3. I found a parent that is legit like one of her daughters little friends.....like they kiki it up..on a first name basis....mmmm ok. 4. The utter shock and disbelief when a child finds out during an ARD that they are special ed....calling everyone else the r-word and you really talking about yourself. You know that not everybody was getting this laundry list of accommodations so yes, you are special. 5. Kids that want to be my friend are odd...I know that some...

Teacher Observations 1. Girl...please stop with the REPLY-ALL to emails. Filling up my inbox with your nonsense. 2. How are you going to have 1st AND 2nd period off and have the audacity to make copies before school? I have a 1st period-- move bitch! 3. Men in education are really oblivious to important things. You would think it would be great because it keeps the gossipy drama down but no its  worse. It creates drama because they have no concept of self and how they are perceived or that no one notices what they are doing. 4. I hate "student-gang members"...boy you are childish, what gang would want you? If you're so bad, why are you in school currently? You're not distributing...I know because I'm your math teacher and your number sense sucks so please stop lying to the class and stfu. 5. I used to think finals in middle school was a terrible idea...but no. I could not imagine teaching for one more week. Please come Friday-fast!

December 1, 2017

Teacher Observation This week back has been exhausting so only one for today... 1. Started the Christmas playlist for the kids today and found another reason that parents have ruined their children. Silent Night by The Temptations came on and the kids were like "this is from Friday After Next"  😐  y'all only know The Temptations from a movie...not the album? Kids are wild because they have no praying grandmothers wearing out The Temptations Christmas every year. Edit

November 16, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. I had to take a small hiatus from these because I was exhausted. However, I now have all the energy because tomorrow is the day before a break. Have my work planned out...shoo fly don't bother me kids. 2. When you know it's time for a break...a series 2a. I wrote a referral for a kid singing in the hallway " Who's a bitch? You's a bitch!" 2b. Trying to get the kids real n ame from his teacher and a girl in that class told a boy " Hey f*gg*t ( I despise this word so much) shut up you p*ssy, a$$ b!tch"...I left and let her teacher deal with it. 2c. This was just from today. 3. "I have a proposition for you, Mrs.Washington. If only 9 kids out of all of your kids fail the final then you have to wear a dress." To what does that benefit me? What am I getting out of this? I will fail all of those kids before I let that happen. 4. Teacher's falling in love after meeting at work is a great love story.....the best part is ...

November 10, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. Children with associations with people of stature really provide a conundrum for me and my teaching style lol 2. I hate when teacher skip days don't get planned properly and then you wind up getting to work and seeing everybody is off and you got left hanging. 3. The cheating that students think they are getting away with is so...sloppy. "Why are there two types of handw riting on the paper?...Why do you have only the exact answers that I'm checking completed?" Why do all the hard work just to let someone else have your answers....and then to do it all the time? Dumb. You know what you think that grade is on your paper but have no idea what I put in the gradebook...including the note that you were cheating. 4. I think the parental advice and called on their child....awkward silence both times. Abort Mission. 5. If everybody else wasn't talking about their spouses at work it wouldn't be such a big deal that I DON'T talk about mine. I...

Story Time!- November 10, 2017

Teacher Story Time (I know it's long but well worth the read) Before I conduct my observations let me tell you what happened today...it happened. It finally happened. I have an all girls class. At first, I was dying on the inside because middle school girls can be....difficult in ways that clash with my personality. I am a sympathetic versus empathetic person so sometimes I do have issues with so me of my female students. However, I have been blessed with a group of girls that are smart, funny and cool. Because of this we get to have "girl time" where I basically listen and they give me all of that piping hot tea that I love so much. So all in all we have a good time in there and we are open and discuss a lot of things. So cat is out of the bag at work that I am married. Everybody knows, faculty, staff, students...I wear my ring, "Mrs." is everywhere and people gossip. No biggie. So in being open and trying to make a real world connection to math we get to a wed...

Teacher Observations 1. Teacher tired is....the most inexplicable, incomprehensible, unfathomable exhaustion to experience. It feels like you haven't slept in days, you're so tired that you could pass out, can't focus but you are still doing all of those things. It is an irritating feeling. If I could assign this as punishment I would.  2. I say this all the time but I honestly need to start rec ording these stories I hear in education and get me a second income. All the education movies and tv shows miss the mark. They weren't dramatic or wild enough. 3. All the piping hot tea ( for my pleasure) that results in general mess happens in education due to human error. 4. Parents be lying or telling half-truths and it makes..NO DAMN SENSE. Like it literally is not logical. Either tell me the whole truth or no truth. Either say my child is messed up or just plead the fifth because these stories ya'll make up..booooyyyyyyyyyy 5. I have battled a lifelong struggle with emp...

Teacher Observations: Parents please chill out edition 1. My class is hard. I designed it in a way that if you do what I tell you to do you will be fine BUT it is harder than a typical math class so that when you see the STAAR ( I mean we can act like it doesn't play a factor but....) or go beyond my class you can say 'dang, this is easy.' 2. With that being said...a 75 on my assessments are pre tty darn good. Your child is literally doing great. 3. I suggest to all parents prior to getting to the algebraic unit to hire a tutor because things will only get worse from here ( even if things are great presently)...and here we are in the middle of the algebra unit and now I'm getting asked to intervene all kids of ways for your child when I said to get outside help two months ago! 4. If your child has reached double digits in age and you are still coming to school to observe them and their behavior I hate to be the one to tell you this but....if you're reading this it...

November 7, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. Admin will skirt responsibility of anything bad and take credit for everything good.  2. Parents, your expectations of your child are totally different than mine. The fact that you want grades to be A's instead of B's is a personal conversation between you and your child, not me.  3. What's the point of mailing progress reports if they are only going to be mailed out two  weeks later? Your child is no longer failing now. We don't need to talk. 4. There is a parent portal for online grades. Please check. I update daily...with notes. 5. No I don't want to be observed. Oh, the observation isn't about me? No, I still don't want you in my room. No, I don't want a meeting. 6. I love when kids are so bad their parents block the school number. Parent/Guardian, you don't care? Great, me either! 7. I hate getting new students. I never know how to get them acclimated. 8. I've been saying this for years. Boys gossip and instigate more...

October 31, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. A lie was told that data drives instruction. Let me tell you it doesn't. I teach before I have the data and last years data doesn't really mean all too much. 2."You can have 90% passing but if your sped kids don't [pass] it doesn't matter." Oh really?  3. There is only so much I can do in a day, a class period. We are behind. I don't have time to create an intervention  inception. Hire more people. 4. Additional teachers expense: funding all of these organizations through candy sales. No I don't have a dollar. No, I can't buy any chocolate. No, I don't know anybody that wants some. Why do we think that is a good fundraiser? Giving 4000 kids a boxes of chocolate to sell to the same population of students and teachers is no bueno. Let's diversify the product.

October 30, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. All schools gotta hit that 3-day weekend. Mondays are awful! 2. Teachers should not do tutorials. Hire a private tutor or school districts stop being cheap and get some education majors from local colleges to come work for pennies for tutorials. 3. The first year of teaching is hard and can have you in tears just by the nature of what it entails. HOWEVER, self-harming b y imposing difficulties on yourself is ridiculous. I don't understand adults not doing what you tell them to do if it would make their lives easier. I'm a taurus but that's some real stubbornness right there. 4. On a more serious note, it sucks losing a member of the school community whether a student or teacher. I've experienced it three times and it hurts all the same. 14 school days until Thanksgiving Break 29 Until Winter Break Edit

October 24, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. I knew I was blessed to have cohesive team in years prior but this year I will scream to the high heavens about how important a good team is to educational work. 2. There is no better feeling for a teacher than the 30 minutes after work where the taste of freedom tricks you into thinking you can do anything and everything you've ever wanted to do in life in 48 hours. " Ba ckpacking through Europe, climbing the Himalayas, taking that cruise...." 3. Teachers all reach the point where they have too many things to process that it drives them to delirium. Go home. 4. Crazy how the domino-effect works with humans. 5. Listening is a skill everyone possess. Often times we think listening means compliance. Compliance is what people lack. Non-compliant children is age-appropriate for my kids. Non-complaint adults...ya'll can catch these hands. Edit

October 24, 2017

Teacher Observations (parents suck edition) 1. I have 60 students. You have nowhere near 60 kids...why don't you check up on your few kids? 2. There is an online component to access grades. Use it. 3. I HATE calling parents...communicating with them at all actually. The excuses are worse than the kids..." she's never been good at math.." contemplated getting a tutor? "...you know this new math. .." no ma'am I don't know this new math. It's literally the same. "...he will definitely be in tutorials.." student doesn't show up. "Education is a priority in our household." why have I NEVER heard from you beyond my initiation. "...yea we did have a late night last night. We went out to dinner so she didn't have time to do their homework." what??? what kind of lame excuse is that. Always say somebody is in the hospital never we just didn't make the time. 4. Blocking the school's number is not a good practice...

October 20, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. Teaching 101: never admit any wrongdoing. Why tell on yourself? 2. Parents are literally required to not do a damn thing but send their child to school....if that. 3. Let your personality dictate your classroom and forget these kids feelings. Have to share because this is crazy...there is second career teacher at my campus...he told a story about buying a house in Katy at auction...he had withdrawn cash and sent his wife to withdraw 50k more....the shock and awe on everybody's face. I don't even have 50,000 pennies let alone dollars. Working with the other half is fascinating. Edit

October 20, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. The audacity to have a day of professional development that has me coming in the same hours as if kids were present and professional dress is blasphemous and nothing but the work of the devil....and to add some extra Satan on top the PD is on a Friday. 2. It's fascinating how much you can get paid to delegate. If you are telling me to do all of this work, what are you doing? 3. Telling your kids you'll be absent but not your coworkers is a flag on the play.  4. Kids go down many paths....some with the prefix of socio or psycho...

October 18, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. Chickens coming home to roost in education is so ...dramatic. Karmic for sure. 2. If kids are anyone for that matter wants to have an altercation the presence of a teacher won't stop it.  3.Special Education student has never passed a test a day in their educational life. "Goal: Sped student passes with commended level." I am a teacher not a magician. ( I have a good tr ack record with getting sped students to pass but I realize that is not the situation for every kid and that is ok.) 4. Before 45 I always thought Republican teachers were voting against their interests in so many ways but whatever. With 45 I KNOW they are voting against their interests. However to be in education and share that you voted for him...nah. Keep it a secret. Say you didn't vote. Also don't understand how you can vote Republican but work with minority students...another topic for another day. 5. Sometimes what you feel is obvious isn't. Ironic question of the...

October 12, 2017

Teacher Observations 1.PSAT was not terrible. I still don't like administering tests. But if I must the directions should be read over the PA. I should literally facilitate. 2. The things kids get caught doing.  3. Male teachers are a hot commodity in the education world because of numbers and such and that also plays with the ladies sometimes. However the amount of married men that do the most  for a woman's attention is ridiculous. Just any attention from any woman will do. I never want to hear any complaints about women doing the most because these men...baaaabbbbyyyyyy giving them a run for their money. I'm talking touching, bumping, all in everybody classroom, "you can't speak to me"....tew much is what it is.

October 9, 2017

Teacher Observations (TK Edition) 1. TK's (Teacher's kids) like PK's (Preacher's Kids) are the absolute worst of the bunch. 2. If you yourself are an educator shouldn't you be working with your kid year-round as you have all the resources at your disposal? They should come to me much better than any other kid.  3. As an educator, you know some kids are just....raggedy. Unfortunately, your kid i s the raggedy child at this campus. Live with it, it happens. (Disclaimer: wifey and I already decided if we have the raggedy child, we will fully support the teacher in making them unraggedy and will ride their ass FOR-EV-ER!) 4. You cannot demand a private school education at a public school. I have 60 students. You have your sorry one. I see them for 90 minutes. You see them for life. You fix them. 5. I,too, can read and quote the board policy. I can also quote it in an email. I can also CC/BCC an administrator as well.

October 4, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. I love when home drama spills over into school and I get to snitch on the kid to make it worse. Serves you right. 2. I hate hearing the boys talk like they are NFL players after a game. "You trash" " I scored 6 touchdowns miss" ..beyond failing my class so this will probably be your first and last game, come to find out the kid is on B team. There are literally 33 potent ial positions you could play and you couldn't make 1 on A team and you're talking all this noise. Please stop. 3. I love my sped babies. Love them to death HOWEVER we do a disservice by mainstreaming them sometimes. The least restrictive environment for them restricts everybody else. 4. I don't like administering the STAAR so idk why it was thought to be a good idea to have me administer the PSAT for 8th graders. I know scholarships and national merit and all of that but what about my inconvenience? It's even more strict than STAAR  😭 😭 Edit

October 2, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. A co-worker calling me for a "textable" statement is a major violation. Calling on vacation/holiday makes it a double violation. I may go to HR.  2. Just make the copies for everybody...when you make your copies. The end. Now no chaos.  3. Parents: a cross walk is a protected walkway for pedestrians not a place for you to park and watch your child walk in the building. 4. Why do I write lesson plans if nobody is going to read them?

September 28, 2017

Teacher Observations 1. Thus far grateful to have administrators that notice your effort and realize life happens and sometimes you need to leave without all the HR hassle 2. How do you score a "0" on an open note/ask the teacher for help quiz? 3. I'm not calling parents about their sociopathic children. You know how crazy they are and you send them to me anyways. School can't do anything, you haven't done anything let's leave it at that.  4. Yes. Get your child a tutor. I can only do so much.

September 21, 2017

Teacher Obersevation Day 14: 1. School fights are so entertaining.  # noworldstar . The drama behind them is captivating honestly. You threw a punch because what? 2. Discretion should be exercised when complaining...never know when you could be pulled into the principals office.  3. I never have but I will never take for granted working with a cohesive team. Math should not be hard 1+1=2.  4. Co-workers should never call me anywhere near 10pm. That time is reserved for friends and family. I would much rather you interrupt my class period every 5 minutes than call me at 10pm every night. "My office hours are from 9-5!"
